Athlete of the week:

Tom Cooke(Kingsway) class of 2012

Tom had one of those races in the 1600m, which is the reason we show up every Saturday to race. The previous weekend he ran a pr of 4:20.11 to finish second at the SJ  Group III Sectional meet nearly 7 seconds off the winner. This past weekend he not only got the best of Chris Marco(Toms River South), but also of Blake Udland(Milburn) and Gerald Gorman(Mendham). Cooke came into the State meet as the 4th seed and shocked the field when he dropped a pr of 8.15 seconds. Running 4:11.96, he leads the field of 1600m runners at MOC's in what could prove to be one of the fastest and deepest 1600m races ever run at MOC's.

Athlete of the week:

Katie Johnston(Haddonfield) class of 2012

This was not an easy pick. Many South Jersey athletes on the girls side did some pretty amazing things. Megan Kirschling(West Deptford) tied a State Groups Record and also jumps the #2 in state history. Megan Lacy(Cherokee) breaks a 31 year old record running 10:24 in the 3200 #9 in state history. Jess Woodard(Cherokee) drops a 46' 2" pr in the shot put just 2" off the South Jersey record. As if all that couldn't be topped, Katie Johnston from Haddonfield had a field day literally at the Group II State meet. Katie became a three time State Champion in all three throws events (a feat that has not been done very many times). Javelin 152' 9", Discus 131' 8" and Shot Put 40' 9". Those three wins helped Haddonfield win the State title for Group II.
